Building Families' Capacity to Impact Student Achievement.
Parents as Tutors is dedicated to building parents' capacity to partner with schools for Reading Achievement. Requiring parents to be fully vested in home/school partnerships starts with empowering them to impact change.
We empower parents with academic tools and strategies needed to help children learn to read and read to learn. Parents as Tutors support school districts, organizations, extended learning programs, and institutions that espouse the dual-capacity framework of creating process conditions linked to learning — this occurs when we connect families to teaching/learning goals and build their capacity to partner for student achievement.

The first step on the journey to becoming a proficient reader is phonetic awareness, and that is why we help your children by including a lip formation chart which demonstrates how their lips should be formed when making letter sounds. Aside from being able to sing the alphabet song, we make sure that your children can recognize letters in lowercase and uppercase format, associate letters with sounds, and recognize letter sounds at the beginning, middle, and end of words. Your child will enjoy all the writing, phonics, phonemic, and letter knowledge activities included. Remember to journal the growth your child will experience.
Vowel Start is designed to work alongside the set of 10 phonics/phonemic awareness posters and flashcards. The activities are designed to help your child understand that vowels represent two distinct sounds. From that point they will practice creating Consonant-Vowel-Consanant words (CVC), and then progress onto creating CVCC and CCVC Words. As they move from letters to words, and then words to sentences, they will further understand the importance of word parts and units, and will practice decoding words based on their know;edge of digraphs, diphthongs, vowel pairs, and R-controlled vowels.
Comprehsion and writing is largely dependent on children understanding how groups of words convey meaning. Understanding Words focuses on helping parents teach their children the rigors of grammar and vocabulary. Children will be able to define, apply, and analyze parts of speech based on a deepening awareness of grammatical elements such as nouns, verbs, pronouns, adverbs, adjectives, prepsositions, conjunctions, and subject-verb agreenments. Parents will enjoy being able to help their children apply grammar and vocabulary to all writing genres,
Parents use Comprehension WorkShop to develop awareness of the various reading genres and strategies that can help their children understand literary elements and text structures. Parents learn how to use questioning of both fiction and nofiction texts, to inspire a deeper understanding of the various texts their children read.
Parents use Comprehension Practice in conjunction with Comprehension Workshop. This book is a collection of 8 riveting stories with a focus on literary elements. At the end of each story, there are language activities, comprehension questions, and language frames for MLL. As parents immerse children in these activities, they find that their questiong skills improve, and students' comprehension skills increase.
